MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry softball team tallied a 9-1 win in game one and a 5-1 win in game two on Saturday to sweep the Nova Southeastern Sharks.

The Buccaneer runs in game one came in bunches. In the second inning, Brianna Smith started out the inning with a one-out double to center field then scored after Paula Mackin followed Smith's double with a double of her own to left center. Amber Durkin singled to advance Mackin to third and Cassy Zamora grounded out to the short stop to score Mackin and move Durkin to second. Natalia Ojeda then ripped a clutch two-out single to left field to score Durkin and make it a 3-0 game.

Nova answered in the top of the third with a run to cut the Buccaneer lead down to two, but Barry came right back with a five-run fourth and opened their lead up to seven. The Bucs added one more in the bottom of five to mercy-rule the Sharks in game one.
Mackin took the circle for Barry and gave up a mere four hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out three.

In game two, Barry drew blood first with a run in the second inning. Jessica Tabor doubled to left field to lead off the inning and Shenique Rosario came in to pinch run for Tabor. Smith laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Rosario to third with one out. Mackin then singled up the middle to drive in Rosario and give Barry the early 1-0 lead.

Nova tied things up in the third at 1-1 but the Barry offense came storming back, posting four in the bottom of the fourth. Tabor again started the frame on base with a single left field. After Smith's fly out to left field, Mackin lifted her first career home run over the right field fence to give the Bucs the 3-1 tilt. Both Durkin and Zamora would eventually score in the inning after Nova committed three errors.

Smith only allowed three hits for Nova in game two and gave up one earned run while striking out three. Smith also led the Buccaneers at the plate, as she belted a whopping .750 on the three game series with two doubles and one RBI. Ojeda also excelled offensively for Barry with four hits on eight at bats and a team-leading five RBIs.

The next series for Barry is one of the biggest of the year as the Bucs play at second-place Tampa in a three game series starting Friday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m. Coverage can be heard on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network.
