Softball Drops First Game Of Series To Spartans

TAMPA, Fla.—The Barry University softball team dropped a 4-0 game to the Tampa Spartans on Saturday evening. The Bucs outhit the Spartans 6-5, but were unable to score against Tampa’s stifling defense.
 
The Spartans struck in the second inning when KatlynRaatz reached on a double to left center. She scored moments later off a Buccaneer error.
 
Tampa took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning as Cassie Barnes reached on a fielder’s choice and later scored off an Elizabeth Milhan single.
 
The Spartans scored two more runs in the fifth off of two hits and a Buccaneer error to take a 4-0 lead. Susan Jallo and Becky Vzyas stole bases to aid the Spartans.
 
The Bucs got close in the fourth with runners on second and third, but were unable to overcome the Spartans. Deanna Henriott earned the win for Tampa. She moves to 20-4 on the season. Brianna Smith took the Buccaneer loss, moving to 14-6.
 
The Bucs return to action tomorrow to wrap up the series with Tampa. The Bucs play a doubleheader starting at 12:00 pm.
