Rowing Finishes Third At SSC Championship

FELLSMERE, Fla.—The Barry University rowing team took third in the varsity 8+ race and second in the varsity 4+ race to finish third overall at the 2011 Sunshine State Conference Rowing Championships on Saturday morning.
 
Nova Southeastern posted wins in both theV8+ and V4+ races to take the championship with 20 points. Florida Tech finished second to the Sharks with 13 points. The Bucs posted 12 points for third, while Rollins finished in fourth with five points.
 
The teams competed in timed trials to determine which teams would compete in the petite finals and which would take part in the grand finals. The Bucs qualified for the grand finals in each of their races along with Nova and Florida Tech.
 
In the varsity 4+ Grand Final race, Barry posted a time of 8:43.1 to finish second and take six points. Nova won in a time of 8:30.9 (8 points) while Tech took third in 9:02.0 (4 points.). The Bucs werer manned by: Cox –Savanna Luberto, Stroke – Haley Stark, 3- Jen Feriozzi, 2- Ari Masley,
Bow- Rebekah Kilroy.
 
In the Varsity 8+ Grand Final, the Bucs (Cox – Grace Horwitz, Stroke – Kelly Harrison, 7- Vanessa Viadero, 6- Nicole Marek, 5- Jaimee Lampard, 4- Renee Forcier, 3- Helene Pierre, 2- Jamie Gordon, Bow- Courtney Greene) finished third in a time of 7:48.6 to claim six points. Nova again finished first in 7:37.9 (12 points) and Tech took second in 7:44.6 (9 points).
 
The Bucs will return to action on May 13-14 at the Dad Vails Regatta. A strong finish at the race could mean a repeat trip to the NCAA Championships in June.
