BOCA RATON, Fla—The Barry University men’s tennis team moved into the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a 5-1 win over Ouachita Baptist. The Bucs took a 3-1 lead after doubles and only needed two points in singles for the win.
In doubles action, the fourth-ranked team of Emanuel Fraitzl and Max Wimmer beat Tobias Kuhlmann and Till Heilshorn 9-7 at number one. At the second doubles flight, Quentin Vachez and Marco Mokrzycki defeated Ernesto Laborda and Helge Knuth 8-5. Sergio Velez and Ollie Lemaitre kept the Bucs perfect in doubles with an 8-3win over Ramon Abaitua and Teodor Anghel.
In singles action, the Bucs took their two points at flights five and six. At singles No. 5, Velez beat Anghel 6-4, 6-2. Lemaitre gave the Bucs the win with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Laborda 7-6, 6-2.
Ouachita Baptist’s lone point came at No. 3 singles where Knuth defeated #44 Marco Mokrzycki 6-4, 6-2.
With the win, the Bucs move on to face Lynn in the championship of the South Regional Tournament tomorrow at 9:00 am. The Bucs and Knights have split matches this season with Barry winning 6-3 in the regular season and Lynn taking a 5-0 victory in the SSC Championship match.
