Women's Soccer Falls To 14th-ranked Cougars

COLUMBUS, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers fell 3-0 to the 14th-ranked Columbus State Lady Cougars at the Walden Soccer Complex on Sunday. 

The Cougars scored once in the first half and twice in the second as the Bucs (1-3-0) were blanked for the first time this season.

Kelsey Pelletier scored the game-winner in the 12th minute for the Cougars (2-1-1), while Stephanie Lowery and Emily Husted tacked on insurance goals in the second half.

Barry’s Becca Rogers had four saves for the Bucs, while CSU’s Mary Mancin stopped four shots by the Bucs to post her second shutout. Both teams posted defender saves. Natalie Diaz stopped a shot by Kiana Nicholson in the 52nd minute. Barry’s best scoring chance came in the 72nd minute when Emma Karp caught Mancin off her line and chipped the ball over her head, but Kansas Bayly was there to head the ball away.

The Bucs play next weekend Sept. 16 and 18 at Pepin Stadium in Tampa, Fla., at the UT Spartans Invitational, taking on Georgia College on Friday and Valdosta State on Sunday. Live coverage of the game will be available on the Buccaneer website, GoBarryBucs.com.
