TAMPA, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers shutout the Valdosta State Blazers 3-0 at the UT Spartans Invitational on Sunday at Pepin Stadium to improve their record to 3-3-0.
Laura Rockel broke the scoring ice in the 29th minute with her first career goal for the game-winner. Melissa Madrid served a cross from the right side after the Blazers (4-2-0) failed to clear a corner and Rockel tapped it in from the top of the six-yard box.
Sarah Wolfer put in a pair of goals in the second period with assists from Emma Karp. In the 73rd minute, Karp found Wolfer all alone at the top of the 18 and she beat Blazer keeper Olivia Mills to the near post. Just 10 minutes later, the pair worked a similar play after Kayla Nanoo cleared the ball out of the back to Karp who flicked it on to Wolfer.
Melissa Toledo made five saves to post her first career shutout in goal for the Bucs. Mills had four saves for the Blazers.
The Bucs travel to Winter Park, Fla., to take on Rollins College on Saturday, Sept. 24 with kick off set for 5:00 pm.
