WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry University women’s soccer team fell to the Rollins Tars by a score of 1-0 in their first conference match of the season on Saturday at Sandspur Field.

Both teams struggled in the first half to find any momentum offensively as it developed into a defensive battle. The Tars, who have yet to allow a goal this season limited the Buccaneers to just three shots in the first period. However the Buccaneers were also strong defensively from the get go and limited Rollins offensively giving up just six shots.

Melissa Toledo started between the pipes for the Bucs and with a strong defensive effort, Toledo made 11 saves to keep the Buccaneers in the ball game.

The Tars took an early 1-0 lead in the first minute of the second half and that would prove to be enough as the Bucs were once again limited to three shots in the second half.

Although the Buccaneers were unable to capitalize on any of their scoring opportunities they showed defensive tenacity coming up with key stops throughout the match.

The Bucs fall to 3-4-0 on the season and are 0-1-0 in Sunshine State Conference play.

The women’s soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when they visit Nova Southeastern University Sharks at 7:00 p.m. Live-stat and audio broadcast will be available through the Buccaneer’s athletic website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
