MIAMISHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s soccer team rolled past the Eckerd Tritons on Sunday afternoon by a final of 6-1.
The game, which was postponed from Saturday due to thunderstorms and flooding throughout Miami-Dade County, was played through scattered showers. However, the rain, and sloppy field conditions were not enough to slow the Buccaneers offensively as they had their best showing this season.
Sophomore forward Emma Karp got the scoring going early as she was able to head in a Melissa Madrid corner for the first goal of the game. The Bucs kept applying pressure and at the 16th minute mark freshman forward Sara Karna punched in her third goal on the year with a 15-yard strike.
The Tritons answered when Arielle Anahory was able to get past the Buccaneer defense and cut the deficit to one, as it would stand heading into the half.
The second half was dominated by the Buccaneers, as once again Karp found the back of the net after a long centering pass from sophomore midfielder Katrina Molfetta just five minutes into the period. Junior Melissa Madrid extended the lead when she made a move at the top of the box and notched her eight goal of the season.
The Buccaneers would go on to add two more goals. Karp converted for her third goal of the match after a long pass from Joanna Stewart, and Stewart recorded her first goal of the season when she carried the ball 40 yards and finished from six yards out to put the Bucs up 6-1.
Karp finished the game with the hat-trick, her first of the season.
The Buccaneers will travel to Lantana, FL where they will take on Palm Beach Atlantic. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. with Live-stat and audio broadcast available through the Barry University athletic website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
