MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s soccer team came back to beat the Sailfish from Palm Beach Atlantic by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday night.

On a game that was halted by severe weather for over an hour after the intermission, the Bucs dominated the first half, outshooting the Sailfish 17-2. However, it was Palm Beach Atlantic who was able to strike first early in the game when Ashley Shoaf was able to slip a pass between the Barry defense up to Meagan Phillips who put the ball in the back of the net just past the 12th minute mark.

The Bucs offense was relentless but it wasn’t until the 41st minute that they were able to capitalize when freshman forward Sarah Karna centered a ball to an open Emma Karp who tied the score when she connected for her 8th goal of the season.

After a delay that lasted over an hour, play resumed with 40 minutes remaining in the second half and the Bucs were able to maintain their constant attack. At times in the period the Sailfish defense would include all 11 players on their own side of the field which made it difficult for the Bucs to capitalize.

But in the 85th minute a centering pass headed by Sofia Jakobsson and once again by Sara Karna inside the six made its way to Lauren Manna who put it away for her first goal of the season.

The Buccaneers would go on to close out the game by a final of 2-1 on a long rainy night.

The Bucs will travel to Tampa on Sunday where they will face off with the Spartans. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. with live-stat and audio broadcast available through the Barry University athletic website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
