Women's Basketball Dominates Spartans To Snap Streak

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers smothered the Tampa Spartans 63-40 to grab a share of the lead in Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball in action in the Health & Sports Center on Saturday.

The Bucs (8-4, 3-0 SSC) held the Spartans to just 16 points in the first half on 4-of-23 shooting and ran the lead to as much as 26 in the second half before settling for the 23-point win. The win snapped a 10-game streak in the series by the Spartans (7-6, 1-3 SSC). The Bucs last won over Tampa on Jan. 6, 2007, a 61-54 win in the HSC.

Yvonne Houston led the Bucs with 11 points. She added six rebounds, six assists, a block and two steals in a solid full-court performance. Freshman Kaley Howard and sophomore Brooke Keeton both scored 10 points to set career highs. Keeton was 5-for-5 from the floor. Howard and Alexandria Zamora both had seven rebounds as the Bucs held a 42-27 edge on the glass.

Moriah Hodge topped Tampa with 12 points, while Jaleesa Harmon added 11.
