Saint Leo was no slouch. Not ranked 18th in NCAA Division II. Barry University discovered that on a day it lost one of its better players.
Barry University men's tennis overcame a gritty Saint Leo squad in Saturday's 5-4 win in Saint Leo, Fla. But the win turned out to be costly as Buccaneers No. 2 singles player Daniel Schmidt turned an ankle in his match, retiring after a 7-5 first set loss.
Marco Mokrzycki, Romain Costamagna, Fabian Groetsch and Leo Vivas all had singles victories for the No. 2 nationally-ranked Buccaneers, which improved to 3-1 overall, 2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Costamagna and Lemaitre accounted for Barry's lone doubles win at the No. 3 spot.
Barry will complete its three-match weekend road swing when it plays at Eckerd College in another SSC dual Sunday.
