CLEARWATER, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers rallied past the Georgia College Bobcats 7-3 to close out the Eckerd College Softball Invitational on Sunday in frigid conditions at Eddie C. Moore Park.

The Bobcats (2-7) scored once in the first and added two more in the fifth to lead 3-0 as the Bucs struggled to find their way in the early morning cold.

But in the bottom of the fifth, Barry (7-2) sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs. Grace Collins led off with a bunt single and stole second. She went to third on a single by Jessica Tabor. Brianna Smith knocked in Collins with a single and pinch runner Cassy Zamora went all the way to third with Smith taking second on the throw. After a walk to Kelly Martinez loaded the bases, Julie Brito tied the game with a two-run single. Paula Mackin followed with a pinch-hit, two-run double to give the Bucs a 5-3 lead and Sarah Broeseker delivered a two-run double of her own to cap the inning.

Smith (4-1) went the distance for the win, allowing five hits and striking out two. Dani Galucci (0-2) took the loss for the Bobcats. She allowed six runs on nine hits and four walks.

The Bucs travel to Decatur, Ala., next weekend for the UAH Charger Chillout, one of the largest softball tournaments in the southeast. LIvestats and audio broadcasts will be available through GameCentral on GoBarryBucs.com.
