MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped their home opener to the St. Thomas Bobcats 13-8 at Feinbloom Field on Tuesday night.

The Bucs (3-2) grabbed an 8-4 lead after four innings, but the Bobcats (7-2) responded with nine unanswered runs to pull away for the win.

Sheehan Planas-Arteaga got the Bucs on the board early, smacking his first career homer, a two-run, opposite-field shot, in the first inning.

After the Bobcats came back with four runs in the second inning, Planas-Arteaga again led the Bucs back, capping a three-run frame with an RBI single to make it 5-4. Barry tacked on runs in the third and fourth to make it 8-4.

After scoring a single run the sixth, the Bobcats connected for four in the seventh, three in the eighth and one in the ninth. A two-run throwing error on a pick-off attempt by Luis Arrizurreta in the seventh allowed the tying run to score and the go-ahead run came in on a single by Ricky Claudio, who had three hits and drove in four runs.

Steven Colon (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings to get the win for STU, while Barry’s TJ Mullins was tagged with the loss. Mullins pitched 1.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks. Dane Stone allowed just a hit and a walk over two scoreless innings and struck out four to earn his fourth save.

The Bucs lost to the Bobcats for the first time in 16 games. The Bucs had gone 14-0-1 in the last 15 meetings. The Bobcats last won 9-3 on April 15, 2003.

The Bucs travel to South Carolina to face the Lander Bearcats in a three-game set this weekend.
