Women's Tennis Breezes by No. 19 UC San Diego

Barry University's No. 2-ranked women's tennis team beat No. 19 UC San Diego, 8-1, Thursday in LaJolla, Calif.

The Buccaneers swept all the doubles matches and ran through the top five singles in straight sets for an easy victory over the Tritons.

No. 47 Linda Fritschken and Caroline Wendling won the No. 1 pairs match, 8-5. Mona Mansour and Cristina Valladares won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. Olivia Matuszak and Julie Stas cruised to an 8-2 pairs win at No. 3.

Stas won the No. 1 singles flight, 6-3, 6-4. Sarah Krohnen won the No. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-3. Akemi Maehama won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. Ranked 43rd in the country, Matuszak won at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1. Wendling, ranked 49th in the nation, fired off a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5.

Barry will play No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific at 9 a.m. Friday to close the three-match Southern California trip.
