EATONTON, Ga. -- Barry men's golf team won the Bobcat Intercollegiate Tuesday after shooting a 7-under 833 to win the 17-team tournament by 10 strokes.
It was Barry's first team title of the spring after finishing runner-up in each of the other three events.
The No. 3-ranked Buccaneers shot a final-round 279 on the par-70, 6,847-yard course at The Golf Club at Cuscowilla. Nova Southeastern was second at 843. North Carolina at Pembroke was third at 6-over 846. Lynn was fourth at 849, and Armstrong Atlantic fifth at 851.
Barry was the only team to shoot under-par in the tournament. Four Buccaneers finished in the top 14 overall.
Lynn's Daniel Young shot 8-under 202 to beat UNC Pembroke's Jordan Walor by a stroke for the individual medalist honor. Barry's Marcus Segerstrom capped the three-round event with a 74 for a 5-under 205 to finish tied for third with Armstrong Atlantic's Jacob Tilton.
Barry's Marcelo Huarte shot a final-round 69 to finish 13th at 210. Buccaneer teammates Daniel Stapff and Scott Smyers tied for 14th, a stroke back at 214. Stapff closed with a 1-under 69, and Smyers capped the tournament Tuesday with a 71.
Segerstrom had 14 birdies in the tournament, and Huarte had 13. Stapff was -4 on par-5 holes throughout the three rounds.
Barry is off until hosting the Buccaneer Invitational April 2-3 at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach.
