WINTER PARK, Fla.--Senior left-hander Brianna Smith collected a pair of complete-game shutouts in the sixth-ranked Buccaneers’ SSC sweep at Nova Southeastern. Facing a Shark offense that ranks third in the league in batting average and runs scored, Smith allowed no earned runs on just six hits and two walks over 14.0 innings. She now has nine shutouts in 17 starts, tying her for the national lead.

Working with little cushion in the Bucs’ 1-0 win in the series opener, Smith surrendered two hits with no walks and four strikeouts. It was her sixth 1-0 shutout on the season.  She then permitted four hits with two walks and one strikeout in a 4-0 victory in the finale. Smith has tossed six shutouts in her last seven SSC starts.

The Bucs, 28-5 and 11-1 in the SSC, travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednsday, Mar. 28 in their next outing. They host the 17th-ranked Tampa Spartans this weekend in a matchup of the co-leaders in the conference. The Spartans come in with a 26-4 mark and 11-1 in the SSC.
