WINTER PARK, Fla.—The sixth-ranked Barry Buccaneers split a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader with the 17th-ranked Rollins Tars on Thursday, dropping game one 3-0, but bouncing back to take the nightcap 3-2.
Alexis Yohe (13-3) tossed a complete-game, holding the hot-hitting Tars, who lead the league in batting, to just three hits. She did not issue a walk and struck out seven.
Brianna Smith accounted for the runs for the Bucs. She smacked her third homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the fourth inning. She led off the sixth with a single and Cassy Zamora, who came in to run for her, scored on a squeeze bunt by Kelly Martinez.
Amie McIntyre (9-4) took the loss. She allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk, while striking out six.
The Tars won game one 3-0 as Monica Meadows homered in the third and McIntyre delivered a two-run single in the fourth and Hope Bitzer (16-3) scattered five hits, three walks and two hit batters to post the shutout.
Smith (18-5) took the loss in game one. She allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks and struck out four. In Smith’s five losses this season, the Bucs have scored a total of two runs.
The rubber game is set for noon on Friday.
