Velez Qualifies for PGA Latin American Tour
Carlos Velez qualified for the Latin America Tour, and now will compete to earn a Web.com Tour card.

MIAMI -- Former Barry University men's golfer Carlos Velez became the third Buccaneer to qualify for the Latin America PGA Tour.

Velez, who played at Barry from 2007-10, shot 69-72-70 to tie for 11th at the Doral Resort & Spa's Great White course last week.

He joins ex-Bucs Willy Pumarol and Daniel Stapf on the 11-tournament tour that begins Sept. 3 in Menda, Mexico. The season runs through December, culminating in the Argentina Open. The top five money earners on the Latin America tour earn their Web.com Tour cards.

"It's a great accomplishment for Carlos and these three extremely hard-working players," Buccaneers coach Jimmy Stobs said. "This is a testament that Barry University men's golf produces players with great potential to play golf for a living. This is just the beginning."
