Men's Soccer Defeats No. 8 Tampa 1-0
Wilkinson lifts Barry in 1-0 victory over Spartans

TAMPA, Fla. – Barry University men’s soccer team defeated Tampa, 1-0, Saturday ending a three-game skid and picked up their second shutout of the season.

The Bucs (2-4, 0-2-0 SSC) withstood a barrage of shots from the Spartans and were able to hold off the NO. 8 ranked team in the nation on their home turf.

Barry scored the only goal of the game when Kris Wilkinson found the back of the net following a rebound off a header to beat goalkeeper David Neipel. Wilkinson’s first career goal as a Buccaneer came in the 21st minute and was enough offense, as the Bucs defense answered the call.

Buccaneer goalkeeper Fred Perez finished the match with seven saves, breaking his career-high set just three days before, and picked up his second career shutout.

Tampa (4-2-1, 1-1-0 SSC) applied plenty of pressure throughout the match out-shooting the Bucs 31 to 12, including a 17 to nine advantage in the second half.

Barry steps out of conference play to battle Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, Sep. 26 with kickoff set for 4 p.m. Live-stat and audio broadcast will be available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
