Team Black Storms Back To Even Series
Alex Gonzalez leads Team Black in series finale Monday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Just when everyone thought Team Red had the series wrapped up, Alex Gonzalez and Team Black battled back to even the best of five series, forcing a decisive game this Monday night.

Sophomore right-hander Zack Jackson took the mound for Team Black and delivered a solid performance tossing 4.2 innings while keeping Team Red hitters quiet.

“Jackson carried our team,” said Gonzalez. “He took the mound and delivered for us when we needed it most, facing elimination but we didn’t back down.”

Matthew Garlock also worked in relief in route to the Team Black victory. Offensively it was a complete team effort. Team Black is led by seniors Luis Arrizurieta and Michael Slabach but also have the likes of Sheehan Planas and Zach Burger in the middle of the lineup.

After collecting the game three win, Team Black continued to battle and once again stave off elimination in game four. Tyler Kinley has been a pleasant surprise for Team Black playing first base and has made an immediate impact. Kinley’s contributions aren’t limited to the mound. The junior has displayed tremendous defense and has wrecked havoc at the plate and on the bases adding another dimension to his game.

Coach Gonzalez handed the ball to Rene Estrada, and the Miami native delivered. Estrada pitched 5.2 innings allowing just four runs and kept his team in the game throughout. Showing excellent calmness and composure, Estrada battled to keep team Black in the thick of things. Estrada was able to avenge his game one performance with the series on the line.

In relief, Chris Peralta worked a crucial sixth inning situation, retiring the final out with runners in scoring position and the game on the line. Peralta followed with a scoreless seventh, retiring the side in order and forcing a decisive game 5.

The rubber-match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday night, with live-video coverage available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM. Follow the link at the bottom of the page for direct access to the live-video coverage.
