Women's Soccer Earns 19th NCAA Tournament Bid

INDIANAPOLIS –The Barry women’s soccer team earned an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA Division II National Tournament and will face the Tampa Spartans on Friday, Nov. 9 in Winter Park, Fla.

The winner of the #6 Bucs/#3 Spartans match will face the host and second-seeded Rollins College Tars on Sunday, Nov. 11 in the South Region semifinals.

The Bucs, under seventh-year head coach Fred Jungemann, are making their 19th trip to the NCAA Tournament, 18 at the Division II level. Only Franklin Pierce, with 19, has made more trips to the Division II tournament. The Bucs won NCAA Division II National Championships in 1989, 1992 and 1993 and reached the final four in 1988, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1999 and 2000.

The Bucs (7-6-2) are led by junior forward Emma Karp and sophomore forward Sara Karna. Both players have scored four goals and added four assists to lead the team with 12 points. Sophomore forward Lauren Manna has also chipped in four goals, while freshman forward Lavinia Nkomo has added four assists. Karp and Manna each have scored two game-winners.

Defensively, Becca Rogers has played every minute in goal this season, posting a 1.22 goals against average and five shutouts. Allowing 19 goals with 76 saves, she has a save percentage of 80.0 percent.
