MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – A ninth inning rally fell just short and Barry University’s baseball team dropped a nonconference matchup against St. Thomas University Wednesday night at Feinbloom field, 7-6.

Barry (26-17) fell behind in the second inning when the Bobcats (32-15) put together a three run rally to take the lead.

Offensively the Bucs struggled in the early part of the game and trailed 7-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth but Barry scored twice in the frame to cut the deficit to 7-4 heading into the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth the Buccaneers scored on RBI singles from Luis Arrizurieta and Adrian English and brought the tying run into scoring position with two outs but the rally fell just short.

Both teams used the nonconference matchup to get their pitching staffs plenty of work heading into the final stretch of the regular season as the Bucs and Bobcats combined for 16 total pitchers on the night.

Matthew Garlock (0-1) earned the start and struck out three in as many innings of work. Rene Estrada and Joe Iorio each picked up a pair of K’s in relief as well.

Offensively the Bucs were led by Sheehan Planas-Arteaga and Michael Slabach, each delivering three hits on the night.

Barry continues a stretch of nonconference games with a three game home series against Palm Beach Atlantic beginning on Friday. Live-stat and video broadcast will be available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
