WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University rowing's Varsity 8+ was named the Sunshine State Conference Boat of the Year.

The Buccaneers crew received seven points. Nova Southeastern was second with six. Voting was conducted by the league's five coaches. Teams were not permitted to vote for their own boat.

Ranked No. 1 in the nation throughout the season, Barry's crew won the Dad Vail Regatta, Knecht Cup and Sunshine State Conference Championships. The Buccaneers finished second at the NCAA National Championships in Indianapolis last weekend.

Barry's crew of  coxswain Gracie Horwitz, Kristina Boncheva, Anna Boada, Rosie Boncheva, Monika Kaminska, Beth Desmond, Anais Foppoli, Emma Howard, and Kelly Harrison won 14 of 16 races this season, including seven finals victories.

Barry's 8 was named SSC Boat of the Week six times this spring, claiming the award every week they were eligible to receive it.
