MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University men’s tennis assistant coach Thomas Hipp has resigned to accept the Director of Tennis and Head Coach position at Flagler College. Hipp takes over at Flagler on July 29.
Hipp helped coach Barry to two national championships, including the 2013 NCAA Division II title in May in which the Buccaneers became the first team in the school’s 29-year athletic history to put together an unbeaten season. No. 1 Barry went 29-0 last season, defeating No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic, 5-4, in the national championship match in Surprise, Ariz.
Hipp also was an integral part of the 2010 national championship season when the Bucs beat Valdosta State, 5-4, in Altamonte Springs, Fla. It was the men’s tennis program’s first national title. He also helped the women’s team to the 2011 national title.
Hipp, who played for the Buccaneers from 2002-06, was a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American in singles and doubles and four-time ITA Scholar All-American. He was inducted into the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame in 2012.
