FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Barry University's Ahmed Triki and Fabian Groetsch advanced to the finals of the Florida Gulf Coast Fall Invitational men's tennis tournament after picking up a pair of wins in the Blue bracket Saturday.
Triki and Groetsch beat Dean Tsamas and Lucas Vaz of Florida Gulf Coast, 9-8, in their first match. The Buccaneers pair then disposed of Arkansas' Jovan Parlic and Pete Thomason, 8-6.
Barry's Leo Vivas and Renato Lombardi beat Hall Fess and Santiago Munoz of Arkansas, 8-6, in the first round. The Bucs pair lost to Jordi Vives and Tianyu Bao of FGCU, 8-3, in the semifinals.
Barry's Nico Dreer and Kevin Sielmann lost to Florida Atlantic's Robbie Dubuque and Sean Bacha, 8-5 in the Green pairs first round. Eduardo Alfonzo and Franco Echenique lost to John Nowak and Stefann Burnett of FAU, 8-4. Dreer and Sielmann lost to Boston College's Jonathan Raude and Alexandre Thirouin, 9-7, in the consolation bracket.
In singles play, Sielmann and Dreer were both Gold Bracket semifinals winners. Dreer beat FGCU's Lance Lvovsky, 6-4, 6-2. Sielmann beat Miami's Bernard Tefel, 6-3, 6-1, setting up an all-Buccaneers final.
Triki was a Blue singles backdraw winner over Will Neuner of FAA, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 10-5. Vivas beat Boston College's Adian McNulty, 6-4, 6-3. Groetsch was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Raude.
Lombardi won his Blue floating match, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.
