FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Barry University women's tennis doubes team of Emma Onila and Linda Fritschken dropped their opening-day match at the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Thursday.

After receiving a first-round bye, the Buccaneers pair lost to the University of Southern California's Giuliana Olmos and Zoe Scandalis, 8-2, at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Fritschken and Onila, who won the ITA Small College Championships and Super Bowl tournament after claiming the ITA South Region Championship earlier this fall, will play third-seeded Brynn Boren and Zoe Katz of USC at 10 a.m. Friday.

Boren and Katz lost to Georgia Tech's Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard, 8-4, after also receiving a first-round bye.

The tournament features elite tennis players from across the country, with a multitude of the top NCAA Division I programs represented.
