MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers evened their record with an 85-48 win over the Janes of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in Thursday night’s women’s basketball action in the Health & Sports Center.
The game was close at the half, 38-31 in favor of the Bucs, but Barry blew it open in the second half. Tyler Hardy nailed a three-pointer out of the break to give Barry a 10-point lead and the Janes (0-2) never got any closer. The Bucs (2-2) pushed the lead to 39 points on two occasions, before settling for a 37-point win.
Colette Eule led the Bucs with 24 points, while Hardy chipped in with 17. Kaylia Richardson came off the bench for eight points and eight boards. Yaileen Quinones led the Janes with 14 points and Laishka Chavez added 13.
After shooting roughly comparable numbers in the first period, the teams diverged sharply in the second. The Janes hit just 26.1 percent from the field and was just 1-of-7 from three-point range. The Bucs, on the other hand, shot 69.0 percent in the second period including 3-of-6 from long range.
