MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The third-ranked Barry Buccaneers had their win streak snapped at 15 in a 5-4 loss to the NCAA Division I North Florida Ospreys at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Saturday.

The Ospreys (7-2), ranked 63rd in Division I, swept the doubles in three very competitive matches. Simona Weymar and Rebela Pereira had the easiest time, defeating Anaeve Pain and Kimmy Twelker at number one 8-4. Taylor Hollander and Marina Cunningham managed a late break against Blanka Szavay and Linda Fritschken to win 8-6 at number two. At the third flight, Esther Zuniga and Michelle Valdez knocked off the 13th-rated pair of Karina Goia and Elisabeth Abanda 8-5.

The Bucs (15-1) rallied to win four of the six singles. In an odd twist, under NCAA Division I scoring rules count the doubles as just one point, the Buccaneers would have won the match 4-3, though as the home team D-II rules were in effect.

Nineteenth-ranked Goia rolled over  Zuniga 6-2, 6-2 at number two and Twelker stayed unbeaten in singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Valdez at number five. Ninth-ranked Abanda also kept her record perfect with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Pereira at number four. Fritschken, ranked 31st, survived a three-set match over Weymar 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

The Ospreys won the final two singles with Cunningham defeating Szavay 7-6 (4), 6-2 at number three and Hollander knocking off Cristina Valladares in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

The Bucs host New York Tech on Thursday, March 20.
