Women's Tennis Six-Pack Crowds All-SSC Teams

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Six Barry University women's tennis team players and head coach Avi Kigel earned All-Sunshine State Conference Team honors.

Kigel was named Coach of the Year for the fifth straight year, which is the most in succession in SSC history.

Sophomores Karina Goia and Emma Onila each were named to the First Team in singles. Junior Linda Fritschken and Onila were named to the First Team in doubles.

Sophomore Elisabeth Abanda and Fritschken earned Second Team honors in singles. Sophomore Kimmy Twelker and freshman Ana Pain received Second Team doubles acclaim.

Goia, of Arad, Romania, owns a 15-0 singles record and No. 9 national ranking. She is 5-0 against nationally-ranked players. Eleven of her wins have come at the top two singles flights, including a 7-0 record at No. 2.

Onila, of Bucharest, Romania, is 9-3 in singles, while holding the No. 7 national ranking. She is 6-3 against ranked opponents, and has won seven of her matches at the No. 1 spot in the lineup.

Fritschken, of Berlin, Germany, and Onila are 15-2 in pairs play, including a 4-1 mark against nationally-ranked duos. They are 7-0 at No. 2 doubles and 8-2 at No. 1. Fritschken and Onila are the No. 7 ranked doubles team in the nation.

Fritschken is 15-3 in singles, with a 4-2 record against ranked opponents. Twelve of her wins have come at the top two spots, and she is 3-1 at No. 3. She is ranked No. 23 in the country.

Abanda, a Montreal, Quebec native, is the Buccaneers leader in wins at 16-2. Abanda is 5-0 at No. 5 singles, and 8-1 at the No. 4 spot in the lineup. She has a 3-0 mark against ranked opponents.

Twelker, who hails from Bad Liebenzell, Germany, and Pain, of Noumea, New Caledonia, have a 15-5 record as a doubles unit. They are 7-4 at the top spot, and are 2-2 against ranked opponents. Ranked sixth in the country as a duo, Twelker and Pain's 15 pairs victories are tied with Onila and Fritschken for the team-high.

The Bucs are 23-1 this season, and will host one of two NCAA Division II South Regionals beginning Saturday at Buccaneer Tennis Center in Miami Shores. Click HERE for regional coverage.
