No. 1 Men's Golf Wins Guy Harvey Invitational

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Barry University men’s golf team won its first tournament of the season, shooting 19-under 845 at Nova Southeastern’s Guy Harvey Invitational at PGA National Golf Club. The Bucs’ team score broke the tournament record.

Barry, which will play in one more fall event, the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Invitational Oct. 20-21 in Seaside, Calif., is the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division II.

Barry's Adam Svensson won the individual title, shooting a 9-under 207 to tie the tournament record. It is Svensson's eighth career tournament title, and his first this season. It was also the first tournament Svensson has competed in this season. Svensson shot even par in the final round of the 17-team, 95-player field.

NSU was the runner-up, finishing 19 strokes behind the Buccaneers at even par. Saint Leo finished third at 871, seven strokes behind Nova.

Barry's Mike Anderson tied for second with Saint Leo’s Ryan Gendron and NSU’s Santiago Gomez, shooting 210. Anderson shot par in the final round. Florida Southern’s John Coultas was fifth at 5-under 211 on the par-72, 7,045-yard PGA Tour course.

Barry's Jose Hernandez, playing as an individual, shot 73 in the final round of his first college tournament to tie for 42nd.

Svensson’s second round 64 was the low round of the tournament, and his second-best career round. He shot a school-record 61 last year.

Barry will be honored at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in its NCAA Championship ring ceremony in the Landon Atrium in the Health & Sports Center. The Bucs will also host Buccaneer Golf Day at noon Friday at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach.
