Men's Soccer Stumbles At Home Against 18th-Ranked Spartans
King scores, Bucs fall at home to No. 18 Tampa

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s men’s soccer team fell to No. 18 ranked University of Tampa Spartans Wednesday night in overtime, 2-1 in a non-conference matchup between SSC foes.

Barry (1-4) fell behind in the 16th minute when Alex Knaggs struck a shot from 35 yards out to put the Spartans in front, 1-0.

The Buccaneers answered with a goal of their own in the 28th minute when Michael Dodds slid a pass behind the defense, connecting with Ryan King, who chipped the ball over the goalkeeper David Niepel to tie the game at 1-1.

In the second half, both teams seemed to hold each other in-check with the Spartans holding a slight lead in shots, 12-11, after regulation.

Roughly halfway into the overtime period, Knaggs sent a shot that was punched out by keeper Johnny Rodrigues. Unfortunately, the Bucs could not clear the ball and Tyler Blackwood delivered the game-winning-goal by punching in the rebound.

The Buccaneers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Melbourne, Fla. to battle the Panthers of Florida Tech University.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. with live-stat and audio broadcast available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
