Men's Soccer Falls In Overtime to 9th-Ranked Lions

ST. LEO, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers push the ninth-ranked Saint Leo Lions to overtime, but fell 3-2 at SLU’s University field on Saturday night.

Matt Campbell scored six minutes into the overtime period with a header from a free kick by Jules Verdin. It was a mirror of the Lions’ first goal.

The game was all Bucs (5-6-1, 1-4-0 SSC) early. Saint Leo started out in an off-side trap, but the Bucs beat it in the 16th minute. Jordan Silverstone slipped a ball through the Lion defense and Patrick Drmola ran on to convert a one-on-one opportunity against Lion keeper Manuel Schoenhuber.

With the first half winding down, the Bucs beat the trap again as Manuel Perez found Connor Randel for a goal in the 43rd minute.

The Lions (9-1-2, 5-1-0 SSC) opened the second half on fire. Campbell scored on a header from a free kick by Verdin in the 49th minute. Henry Adu tied the game in the 54th minute when the Bucs failed to clear the ball out of their box.

Jimmy McGregor had seven saves for the Bucs. Shoenhuber hadthree saves for the Lions.

The Bucs travel to Melbourne, Fla., on Wednesday, Oct. 22 to face the Florida Tech Panthers.
