Men's Soccer Team Honors Three Seniors

Bucs fight for conference tournament seeding

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Three Barry men’s soccer players will celebrate the culmination of their careers with the Barry University soccer program when the Bucs host Eckerd College Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.

Shaun Herselman, Joong Kim and Johnny Rodrigues make up the senior class honored on Saturday.

Johnny Rodrigues and Joong Kim were both members of the 2010 Sunshine State Conference championship team; while Rodrigues was also the goalkeeper for the 2009 squad that went on to capture the SSC Tournament title. Both Rodrigues and Kim helped guide the Bucs to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11.

This fall, Herselman and Rodrigues were named co-captains and have led the Bucs to a berth in the SSC Tournament with a 4-3 mark heading into the season finale.

Shaun HerselmanHerselman came to Barry last fall after transferring from Tyler Junior College. In his first year with the Bucs, he played in 11 games including nine starts. As team captain, he has anchored the Buccaneer defense the last two seasons and helped post three shutouts this fall. The Johannesburg, South Africa native has been named to the Athletic Director’s List, the Dean’s list as well as the SSC Commissioner’s honor roll throughout his career at Barry.

Joong KimKim is a four-year letterman who came to Barry in 2010. In his freshman season played in 18 games, including 11 starts. His sophomore season he was named to the Sunshine State Conference 2nd Team as a midfielder. The Seoul, South Korea native, has started all 14 games in which he has played this fall, and is third on the team with eight points. Kim has been selected to the Athletic Director’s List on three occasions, Dean’s List twice and the President’s 4.0 List in his career at Barry. He has also been named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Johnny RodriguesRodrigues is a two-time First-Team All-SSC selection. He is a two-time Daktronics First-Team All-Region selection and an NSCAA and Daktronics All-American. The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native holds three single season records and is in the top 10 in 21 single season categories in program history. He also holds five career records at Barry and is second all-time in wins with 42, shutouts with 27 and saves with 284. Rodrigues has been named to the University’s Athletic Director’s, Dean’s and President’ List throughout his career as well as the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Women's Soccer's Four Seniors Close Out Stellar Careers

Bucs look to win first SSC Title since 2004

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry women’s soccer team will honor the 2013 senior class of Morgan Garcia, Danielle Mabie, Katrina Molfetta and Chelsea Stoeckigt on Saturday, Nov. 2 prior to the final regular-season game against the Eckerd College Tritons at 7:00 pm.

The quartet has been instrumental in leading the Buccaneers back to national prominence. Last season, the Bucs reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005. This year, the Bucs are currently ranked #20 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Top 25 and have qualified for the Sunshine State Conference Tournament for the first time since 2004.

All four are four-year letter winners with the Bucs and have helped lead Barry to a 33-28-4 mark over their careers.

Morgan GarciaGarcia, from California, has appeared in 31 games, making five starts, despite having the last two seasons cut short. She has contributed three goals and two assists. An outstanding student, she has been named to Barry’s Dean’s List five times and Athletic Director’s List once. She has also been on the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll all three years.

Danielle MabieMabie is another Californian. Playing primarily on defense, she has helped the team post 21 shutouts in 40 appearances, 21 starts, over the last four years. Last season, she earned a spot on the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Barry Athletic Director’s List. This season, she has won the starting left back job and helped lead the team to first place in the SSC on defense with a 0.66 goals against average and seven shutouts.

Katrina MolfettaMolfetta, also from California, has started 34 of her 56 appearances, primarily as a defender. In 2011, she tied a Barry mark of assists in a game with three against Eckerd. This season, playing in the midfield, she knocked in her first career goal, a game-winner against Palm Beach Atlantic. An Academic All-American as a sophomore, she has earned Barry’s President’s List twice, Dean’s List three times and Athletic Director’s List once. She has been on the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll all three years as well.

Chelsea StoeckigtStoeckigt, from Illinois, has also appeared in 56 games, making 40 career starts. She played mostly on defense her first two years and mostly in the midfield the last two. She notched her first career goal as a freshman, the game-winner against Eckerd in 2010. This year, she has also scored once, against Florida Southern, and leads the Bucs with six assists.  Overall, she has two goals and 10 assists. She ranks in the top 20 all-time in minutes played.
