MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry women’s soccer made it to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship game after getting by the Florida Tech Panthers 5-3 in penalty kicks to settle a double-overtime scoreless tie on Friday night at Buccaneer Field.

The Bucs (12-3-2) controlled most of the play and held a sizeable 21-12 edge in shots, though the Panthers (11-5-2) were up 9-7 in shots on goal.

Both teams had multiple chances. Barry’s best came in the 72nd minute. Lavinia Nkomo broke loose on the top of the 18-yard box and sent a cross to the far post. Lauren Manna slid on, but just missed the connection. Tech’s best chance came in the second overtime. Courtney Hueston’s shot was saved by Becca Rogers who could not corral the ball. Aubri Williamson followed up with a point-blank shot, but Rogers got up off the deck to make the save again.

It came down to penalty kicks to decide the advance. The Bucs nailed all five of their kicks by Tamara Vuckovich, Manna, Karla Monge, Katie Turner and Ashley Harlan. Rogers came up with a big save on Tech’s third kick by Kristin Howe to propel the Bucs in to the finals.

It is the Bucs first trip to the finals since winning the inaugural championship in 2003. The last time the Bucs went to penalty kicks in the SSC Tournament was 2004 in the semifinals against Rollins, with the Tars coming out on top 4-3 on kicks after a 1-1 tie.

Barry will host the second-seeded Rollins Tars, 3-0 winners over Florida Southern, for the SSC Title on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
