INDIANAPOLIS—The Barry women's soccer team is going dancing again!
The Bucs, who won the Sunshine State Conference regular season title with a 7-0-1 mark, received a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second straight year and the 19th time in the history of the program. Barry has actually been dancing 20 times, with 1987's bid coming in the Division I field. Both marks (20 overall bids and 19 in D-II) are records for Division II teams.
The Bucs received the sixth seed and will play the third-seeded Tampa Spartans at second-seed Rollins' Sandspur Field on Friday.
The Bucs split two games each with Tampa and Rollins on the season. The Bucs fell 3-2 in overtime to Tampa early in the season and defeated the Spartans 3-0 at Pepin Stadium in late October. Barry won 1-0 at Sandspur Field over the Tars, but fell at home in the finals of the SSC Tournament 3-2 in double overtime.
The Bucs are one of the top defensive teams in the country, led by junior keeper Becca Rogers, the SSC Defensive Player of the Year. Rogers leads the SSC in goals against average, shutouts and save percentage. Junior defender Ashley Harlan was also named to the All-SSC team along with junior forward Lauren Manna and sophomore midfielder Lavinia Nkomo. Sophomore midfielder Tamara Vuckovich was named to the second team. Rogers, Harlan, Manna and Vuckovich were also named to the All-SSC Tourney team.
