Broeseker Earns Softball Academic All-America

TOWSON, Md.—Barry University senior third baseman Sarah Broeseker added to her awards this spring when she was tabbed as a First-Team selection on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II softball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 D-II Academic All-America teams program.

A biology (pre-med) major with a 3.67 G.P.A., Broeseker led the Buccaneers to a 34-20 record and the finals of the South Region 2 Tournament.  Honored as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year after hitting .415 with 14 doubles, four triples and three home runs, she led the team with 37 runs batted in and 35 runs scored. Only the third Barry player to be named as SSC Player of the Year, she earned second-team All-SSC accolades as a sophomore and first-team notice as a junior.

Broeseker is the sixth Buccaneer to earn Academic All-America honors and the first First-Team selection since KD Smith in 2003.
