MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s softball team crushed Kentucky State Saturday at Buccaneer field, 9-1 and 13-0, in a pair of five inning games.

Game One

After an entire week without playing the Bucs (7-2) didn’t miss a beat and grabbed the early lead with a three-run outburst in the bottom of the first inning.

Julie Brito doubled to left center in the second inning to drive in a pair of runs and Kristina Pazienza followed with an RBI single to left to cap a five-run frame for a Buccaneer offense that was firing on all cylinders Saturday.

Camille Czarnecki (4-0) worked three innings and scattered three hits, allowed just one unearned run while punching out four to pick up the win. Taylor Sabol worked two scoreless innings in relief of Czarnecki to close out the victory for the Buccaneers.

Barry went on to add another run in the bottom of the third and cruised to a 9-1 win.

Tayler Vierra struggled against a potent Buccaneer lineup and allowed eight runs in just two innings of work for Kentucky State (0-3).

Game Two

The Buccaneers continued their offensive outburst in the final game of the series with a 13-0 victory in which the hammered 12 hits in all.

The Buccaneers jumped ahead early once again, this time with a six run rally highlighted by Ashley Fernandez’s three-run blast; her first homer of the season.

Although the offense added plenty of run support, Britney Pugh (2-0) was nearly flawless. The right-hander tossed five innings of no-hit ball and struck out six batters to earn her second win of the season.

Megan Copeland paced the Bucs with a 4-for-5 performance in the double-header. Fernandez collected a pair of hits and drove-in five runs on the day.
