Women's Tennis Takes Down Argos, 7-2

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Barry women's tennis team netted a 7-2 victory over 10th-ranked West Florida Friday to kickstart a three-match weekend.

The No. 4-ranked Buccaneers (8-0) won two of the three doubles matches and all but one of the singles en route to a competitive victory to begin a stretch of six matches over eight days.

Barry's Linda Fritschken steamrolled Luiza Sonnervig, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Fritschken, the 19th-ranked player in the country, also paired with Kimmy Twelker for an impressive, 8-3 No. 2 doubles win over Luiza Sonnervig and Mariana Sonnervig, who entered the match ranked sixth in the South Region.

Emma Onila defeated Nina Bubelova, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles as the Romanian freshman remained unbeaten. Fellow Romanian first-year Buccaneer Karina Goia upset No. 36 Giovana Patitucci, 7-5, 6-7 (2-7), 10-4, at No. 5 singles to remain unbeaten as well.

Goia and Isabela Miro combined to beat Patitucci and Fernanda Amaral, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.

Twelker defeated Mariana Sonnervig, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. Maehama defeated Amaral, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6.

Barry lost the No. 1 doubles flight as West Florida's Monika Kochanova and Nina Bubelova handed Onila and Abanda their first doubles loss of the season, 8-6, at the No. 1 flight. Kochanova also beat Abanda, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8, in a battle at No. 1 singles.
