Barry University's institutional-wide accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) was reaffirmed for a term of 10 years, the maximum length of time a school can receive re-accreditation. A rarity for many institutions seeking re-accreditation, Barry received a “no report-back required” mark. Barry’s SACSCOC liaison, Dr. Steve Sheeley, said the University was “a model visit.”
“I am grateful to EVERYONE who helped bring about this extraordinary outcome; this is a huge affirmation of our work,” said President Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD. “I am beaming with pride and joy.”
SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among these diverse institutions to award baccalaureate, masters, specialist and doctoral degrees.
More than 80 institutions are reviewed annually for a ten-year reaffirmation of institutional accreditation. That review includes an in-depth analysis of each institution's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Barry’s QEP will be implemented in the fall of 2015.
The mission of SACSCOC is to assure the educational quality and improve the effectiveness of its member institutions and holds six core values; integrity, continuous quality improvement, peer review/self-regulation, accountability, student learning, and transparency.
