Barry Pre-Health Students volunteer with Feeding South Florida

On Saturday December 20, 2014, five members of Barry University’s Minority Association of Pre-health Students (MAPS) joined Feeding South Florida’s first-ever Holiday Sort-a-Thon to sort food to be donated to families in need.

The event took place at Feeding South Florida’s main warehouse location in Pembroke Pines. The MAPS students spent three hours volunteering among other helpers to prepare more than 38,000 pounds of food for distribution during the recent holiday season.

In line with Barry’s Core Commitments, MAPS students regularly volunteer throughout the year in an effort to give back to the South Florida Community. Previous volunteer activities include the Miami-Dade Heart Walk, the Hialeah Health Fair, and the Brain Fair for Kids.

MAPS is a multicultural organization with members from undergraduate (biology, chemistry, and nursing) and graduate (BMS) programs at Barry University. For more information about this organization, e-mail: Barrymaps@gmail.com or visit: Barrymaps.blogspot.com; www.barry.edu/maps.
