Barry business students study economics and international strategies in Germany

Barry University’s Andreas School of Business students traveled to Germany this summer for a course in Macro-Economic Context & Internationalization Strategies focusing on the European companies. About a dozen Master of Business Administration (MBA) students of diverse nationalities registered for MBA 665 at the Georg Simon Ohm University in Nuremberg, Germany.

The trip was made possible by Barry’s economics professor, Dr. Ingeborg Nickerson as well as Leigh Ellen Johnson, a graduate programs coordinator who also attended the trip. Students attended seminars and workshops with professors, deans, and students from the Georg Simon Ohm University. The group also took tours of two successful German companies: Faber-Castell and Audi.

“This course was a long-anticipated culmination of Barry’s Andreas School of Business partnership with Georg-Simon-Ohm University (GSO) in Nuremberg, Germany,” said Nickerson. “For the past 10 years, GSO has been sending undergraduate exchange students as well as a once-a-year contingent of MBAs to Barry. Our MBA seminar rounded out the loop by exposing Barry students to the culture and business practices of the European Union and Germany in particular.”

This week-long seminar centered on the economic success in Germany and the strategy of German businesses as it relates to this success, especially in the face of the current economic crisis in the European region. The school of business deemed the trip a successful one and hopes to continue this new annual tradition in the future.

“I had an amazing time both scholastically and recreationally on our trip and I believe it helped shape me professionally,” said MBA student Tim Green. “I think I speak for all my classmates when I say this trip was a huge success for all of us and our careers as well as for Barry University. The Barry MBA is now enhanced and has added value to it by offering this course and we are very grateful.”
