2020 St. Catherine Medal for Outstanding Service

Junior St Catherine Medal Winner, Anastasiia Samokhvalova:

Anastasiia is a double major in Accounting and Finance, and the prototype student athlete (Volleyball) and leader, as a member of the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF). Besides keeping an incredible GPES, she is a wonderful person with a welcoming personality and a very big, servant’s heart. She tutors her fellow Barry Students in accounting, finances, management, and math. She also has contributed to different community services at an animal shelter, the Miami Triathlon, MLK ay of Service, National Women’s and Girls’ Sports Day, Miracle League of Miami, International Coastal Cleanup Day, Miracle League of Miami, International Coastal Cleanup Day, Historic Virginia Key/Hurricane Irma Cleanup, and even taught elementary students at Hubert O. Sibley K-8 Center once a week. She has truly embraced the meaning of Barry’s commitment to learn, reflect, and serve.

Senior St Catherine Medal Winner, Antonio “Toni” Rodriguez:

“Toni” Rodriguez's experience at Barry has been of four years of outstanding leadership, service, and academic achievements in Political Sciences. He is an outstanding scholar with exceptional records of service in accordance with the Barry mission. He is the definition of determined and selfless. He is motivated to achieve his dreams of going into Politics one day, and on his journey he is always guiding people along the way to help them achieve their dreams as well. Toni has found himself involved with community and civic engagement activities such as the Student Government Association, voter registration drivers, voter education events and brought diverse speakers to campus. He has served as a Fellow for Barry’s Center for Community Service Initiatives (CCSI), Barry Service Corps, leading a five-student ‘Civic Health’ team that promote juvenile justice, health care, and educational policies. He was also the co-chair of the Campus Democracy Project (CDP) and organized march and dialogue about immigration, the DREAMERs and the TPS programs. He has indeed achieved the Dominican Values that identifies Barry’s Mission.
