Ongoing Service Opportunities
America Reads is a federal initiative that sponsors college students to serve as reading tutors for at-risk children in the local community. The goal is to have every child read on grade level by the end of the third grade. Students eligible for federal work-study may use their award to earn their work study funds by tutoring 5-10 hours per week at a participating school. This program is open to all Barry University students who are interested. For more information, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Achieve. Inspire. Mentor (A.I.M.) Program
Mentoring programs have a huge impact on all those participating in the program, as well as the surrounding community. The mentors will work closely with 10th Grade students at Edison, preparing them for life after high school. Mentors must be able to commit at least 4 hours per work to the program. We welcome all individuals who are interested to apply. Those who are eligible can receive a scholarship for $1100. More information on the program can be found here. Applications can be found here.
The Bucateer program is part of the De Porres Center’s mission to deepen commitment to service while also meeting needs in the community. Students who are accepted will need to commit to a minimum of 3 service hours a week for the school year, either on or off campus, as well as attend monthly meetings. At the end of the year, those who have completed their necessary hours will be given an award for their commitment to service.
