The Barry University Archives and Special Collections invites the Barry community to a presentation: “Defining Moments, a Cuban Exile's Story About Discovery and the Search for a Better Future” by Jose I. Ramirez.

Date: Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013
Time: 3 – 4 p.m.
Location: Library 308

Leaving his parents in Cuba at the age of fifteen to begin a new life, Jose lived in transitional housing, a refugee camp, several foster homes, and alone until finally reuniting with family members years later. As a member of the Operation Pedro Pan, his book provides a real-life perspective of a unique exile experience.

Reflecting on the experiences of the authors trips back to Cuba over the last several years, the author has also come to certain conclusions about life in Cuba. Through exploring important topics and themes relevant to him, his family and his home country, the author is able to reflect on that which has remained the same and that which has changed, always with the hope that a better future may be in the horizon.
