Trauma and Suffering: Faith-Based Approaches and Interventions

Trauma and Suffering: Faith-Based Approaches and Interventions

On May 12th, Barry University’s School of Social Work, Department of Theology and Department of Campus Ministry will co-host a conference entitled Trauma and Suffering: Faith-Based Approaches and Interventions.

The daylong conference will address the impact of trauma and suffering in the context of urban poverty, domestic and community violence, and grief and loss in families. The purpose of this conference is to bring together social service providers with ministers and other faith based leaders and scholars to gain a better understanding of our concepts of trauma and suffering, to establish a link between our efforts to address the problems and issues experienced by at risk children, youth and families, and discuss intervention strategies and approaches that we can use to strengthen and empower these families and communities.

The conference is free of charge and open to the public. It will be held on the Miami Shores campus of Barry University in the D. Inez Andreas Building, Rooms 111-112, from 8:30am - 3:30pm.

Please email Dr. Olga Osby at oosby@barry.edu or phone her at 601-506-0747 or 305-899-3196, to RSVP for lunch. Social workers will receive CEUs.
