Feminism Today: Inclusive Modern Movement or Outdated Relic?

The current Me Too (#MeToo) campaign has rejuvenated the feminist movement for a new generation by putting a spotlight on issues such as gender-based violence and sex discrimination. Yet, other women distance themselves from women’s rights campaigns and describe themselves as “post-feminists.”
Generations of women have contributed to the women’s rights movement by addressing such issues as voting rights, sexual liberation, and equal pay for equal work. Meanwhile, critics have derided feminists as “angry,” “elitist,” “narcissistic,” and “bra burners.”
Is there a need for feminism in the new millennium? What does gender equality look like in a contemporary context? Who are the oppressors, and who are the victims? How do we hold perpetrators of sexual harassment and discrimination accountable? Who are the groups and individuals with the power to effect change?
Join an all-female panel local activists, faculty, students, and community partners to explore aspects of the modern feminist movement, its historic roots, and collaborative efforts towards a more inclusive society.
