Mass for the Feast of Catherine of Siena

Mass for the Feast of Catherine of Siena

Tuesday, April 29th
12:00 PM
Cor Jesu Chapel

Join us for the celebration of the Eucharist on the Feast of Saint Catherine of Siena on Monday, April 29th at the noon mass. The legacy of this great woman is part of our Dominican Heritage at Barry University.

Caterina Benincasa was a Lay Dominican of 14th century Italy.  She was called by God out of a life of contemplative seclusion in her home to serve the poor.  She joined the “Mantellate” a Lay Dominican organization in her native Siena.  She became a tireless advocate for peace between the powerful in Italy and went as far as convincing the Pope (who had left to Avignon) to return to Rome and bring peace.  She died in Rome on April 29th, 1380 at the age of thirty three. She was declared a saint in 1461 and raised to Doctor of the Church in 1970.
