Greetings Barry Community!

Barry University’s Annual Homecoming Week is right around the corner! Come celebrate a week of Buccaneer pride as we commemorate Barry University’s 75th anniversary. See the schedule below for more details on the events planned for the week!

 

Sunday [January 31, 2016]

Window Decorating 1:00pm Landon Courtyard

Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups will be able to register and reserve a window to decorate facing the Landon Courtyard. This is an opportunity for Clubs and Organizations to show their support for Homecoming while promoting their presence on campus and earn points toward the Homecoming Cup.  A panel of Judges will select 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. This event is a part of the Homecoming Cup Competition.

 

Monday [February 1, 2016]

Golf Cart Parade and Bonfire 7:00pm Dominican Lawn

The Golf cart parade will consist of groups of students, faculty and/or staff decorating golf carts in accordance with this year’s theme: “Retro”. Upon completion of the decoration process, the groups will parade the golf carts to the Dominican Lawn to kick off the Homecoming Bonfire. The Homecoming Bonfire will be a gathering of students in celebration of the kick off to the 2016 Barry University Homecoming! There will be music, novelties, student performances, introductions of our Homecoming court as well as Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams. This is a great way to come together as a community in preparation for the biggest week of the year!

 

Tuesday [February 2, 2016]

Barry Beauties 8:00pm Landon Parking Lot

This all male beauty pageant is one of the highlights of Homecoming week! This is an annual Barry a tradition dating back to when Barry first integrated from being an all-female college to becoming co-ed. The 75th anniversary is known as the diamond anniversary the theme this year is “Diamonds are forever!” The first place winner will receive a flat screen TV. 

Buc Chop (Master Chef) 12:00pm Location Roussell Dining Hall

Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups will compete against each other to make the best dish. Each team will be given a mystery box of ingredients to prepare a dish of their choice within a fixed amount of time. Teams will be awarded points for the best dish selected from a panel of judges. This event is part of the Homecoming Cup. 

SGA Powder Puff Football Game 3:30pm Intramural Fields

The Student Government Association turns the table on traditional football standards! In this classic competition, the females compete in a flag football tournament while being coached and cheered on by their male classmates. Always full of spectacular action, The 2016 SGA Powder Puff Game will be sure to be an event full of action packed competition!

Pie Eating Contest 4:00pm Intramural Fields

Representatives from Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups will compete in a pie contest during SGA Powder Puff game halftime. Homecoming cup points will be distributed based on which team member is able to eat the most pies.

 

 Wednesday [February 3, 2016]

Buccaneer Boat Races 3:00pm Penafort Pool

Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups can test their ship making skills. Each registered team will be given a list of approved building materials and starting supplies a week prior to the race. They will need to build a sea worthy vessel that will make it the length of the pool. Each team will be timed and the top three times will be awarded points toward the Homecoming Cup.

 Gamers' Ball: 4:00pm-7:00pm, 10:00pm-12:00am Landon Atrium and Events Room

In the spirit of the “retro” homecoming theme, this year’s Gamer’s Ball will have video games throughout the decades. From current generation consoles to classic arcade machines, the Barry community is open to a night of video game fun! From 4:00pm-7:00pm is the open gaming portion with a break for the Men’s Basketball game at 7:00 pm and then picks back up with the tournament portion beginning at 10:00 pm. 

 

 

Thursday [February 4, 2016]

Barry Amazing Race 3:00pm Campus Mall

Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups will have to navigate their way through multiple legs of this relay race which include obstacles, challenges and partner tasks. The course will include three legged race, egg carry, sack race and much more.  This event will also be timed and the teams with the best times will earn more points toward the Homecoming Cup. This event will be part of the homecoming cup.

 Fashion Show 7:00pm Landon Parking Lot

Get ready for the Evolution of Fashion!  Trends reimagined!!!!  New collections from vendors and designers including, Beware Swim, Men’s Wearhouse, Pink Lemonade, Swim n Sport, The Lamaj Collection and much more! Make sure you come to the show dressed to impress in your most fashionable attire… Special prizes and giveaways will be given to the selected trendsetters in the audience. Seating will begin at 7:00pm on (Thursday, February 4, 2016) at the Main Stage located in Landon Courtyard & Parking Lot. This event is free for Barry students, Staff, and Alumni with Barry ID. It is $5.00 for all outside Guests; valid for one guest per Barry student, Staff, and Alumni.

 

 Friday [February 5, 2016]

Festival of Nations 2:00 pm to 6:00pm Landon Parking Lot

Festival of Nations is one of Barry University’s largest cultural event and has been part of Barry’s tradition since 1995. Showcasing the richness and diversity of our international culture on campus displayed, the event includes student-sponsored country booths, food, music and dance, games, performances, and other exciting activities.

 Homecoming Dance 9:00pm Andreas 111/112

1940’s Canteen Homecoming Ball. This year we are rolling out the red carpet 1940’s style. Enjoy an evening of socializing and dancing with a variety of music and special entertainment surprises! Enjoy cocktail hour from 9:00pm – 10:00pm. There will be hors d’oeuvres and a variety of refreshments including a midnight toast! Dress to impress as this event is semi-formal. There will be a $10.00 ticket charge and tickets may be purchased at the Center for Student Involvement in Landon 202. It will be $15.00 for all outside Guests; valid for one guest per Barry student. All Barry Students need their Barry ID. All guests must have an official government ID. All guests must come with a Barry Student. Dress code STRICTLY enforced. No Durags, Slippers, or Big T-Shirts. The Homecoming Princes and Princesses will be crowned at this event. 

Photo Scavenger Hunt

In addition to the daily scheduled scavenger hunt photos, Friday is where Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups can make up missed shots with bonus photos. If you are lucky to snap a shot with Bucky, a homecoming court member, someone dressed up in the theme of the day or at the Homecoming Dance; you can rack up more Homecoming Cup Points.

 

Saturday [February 6, 2015]

Homecoming Tailgate 11:00am Landon Parking Lot

Hosted by DJ Laz and Frankie P from Hits 97.3 FM, the annual Reunion Tailgate features Alumni Athletics Games, barbecue lunch, beer by Hialeah Brewing Company, and fun for the whole family!  The tailgate will include games, prizes and a BucKids Camp KidZone for the little ones! This event will lead into the Women’s Basketball game vs Palm Beach Atlantic at 3pm. There will be a Make-A-Wish event following the end of the game and prior to the Men’s Basketball game at 5pm also vs Palm Beach Atlantic. At halftime of the Men’s game, the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned.
