WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers picked up their first in of the women’s soccer season with a 2-0 victory over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Magic Jack Field on Saturday.

Emma Karp scored twice and the Buccaneer defense led by keeper Becca Rogers and defender Tamara Vuckovich pitched their first shutout of the season.

Karp got the Bucs (1-1-0) on the board in the first half with 19:01 gone. Katrina Molfetta drove a ball up the right wing and crossed it to Karp about 30 yards out. Karp spun to her left and ripped a shot past Sailfish keeper Allison Fox and Barry carried the advantage into halftime.

Still leading 1-0, the Bucs faced down PBA’s best scoring chance about 13 minutes into the period. Juliet Waller broke free up the middle of the Buccaneer defense for a one-on-one chance against Rogers. Rogers burst off her line and just got a glove on the ball to knock it away and, as she scrambled to her feet, Kasey Wyer tried to chip the ball to the far post over Rogers head. But Vuckovich was there to head the ball away and preserve the shutout.

About 12 minutes later, Karp got a feed from Melissa Madrid and reprised her first half goal with another spin move that freed her up for shot to the far post and a 2-0 lead.

Rogers picked up the win and her first career shutout with four saves and the one by Vuckovich, while Fox had six saves for the Sailfish (2-1-0). Barry held a 21-9 edge in shots and 5-1 in corners.

The Bucs will open up the home portion of their schedule on Monday, Sept 10 at 7:00 pm as they host the St. Thomas Bobcats.
