Men's Soccer Drops Home Opener
Guilherme Oliveira and the Buccaneers lose home opener versus Bentley University, 1-0.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University men’s soccer team fell at the hands of the Bentley University Falcons in the Buccaneers’ home opener Saturday night, 1-0.

The Buccaneers (1-2-0) were the aggressors in the first half, dictating the tempo of the game from the start. Freshman forward Patrick Drmola started for the Bucs in his first action since joining the team and showed his ability on the ball and is rapidly picking up the Buccaneer system.

The Falcons (3-0-0) entered the day riding a two-game win streak to begin the season.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half. Barry was not able to capitalize on several set pieces with four of the six corner kick opportunities coming in the first half.

For the majority of the match the Buccaneer defense held strong, but in the 74th minute off a Falcon’s throw-in deep in the Buccaneer zone, Stephen Silva served a ball into the box and Brennan DaCosta was able to sneak a header past goalkeeper Fred Perez for the game’s first tally.

Barry answered with a few opportunities including a run by midfielder Guilherme Oliveira towards the near post on a cross, but the shot skipped just wide of the net.

The Bucs return to action on Saturday, Sep. 15th when they travel to St. Leo for their first conference match of the season. Last fall, Barry defeated the Lions 6-0 in their first meeting of 2011. The two teams faced each other once again in the opening round of the conference tournament with the Bucs advancing by way of penalty kicks.

The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. with live-stat and broadcast coverage available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
